03.23.2015 After losing three tight matches at the Australian Open then in Doha and Dubai, Venus Williams is set to compete this week at the
Miami Open in Miami, Florida as the 16th seed. Venus got a very good draw as several players she has had trouble with are on the opposite side
of the draw from her including her sister Serena Williams. Petra Kvitova is not playing this event. Venus could meet the 2nd seeded Maria
Sharapova of Russia in the semifinals, the 7th seeded Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland in the quarterfinals and
the 4th seeded Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark in the fourth round.
Venus Williams Wins Auckland Title
01.10.2015 Venus Williams overcame a slow start Saturday in the final in Auckland, New Zealand at the ASB Classic to defeat the 8th
ranked Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 to win her first tournament played of the new year. Venus made several errors on a
very windy day to start the match and lost the first game of set two.
Venus then cut her errors and hit several aces and powerful
groundstroke winners to win four games in a row to lead 4-1 in set two before closing out the match. Venus next plays at the Australian
Open which starts January 19th in Melbourne, Australia. Venus will be ranked 18th so unless two higher ranked players withdraw injured, she could
face a top player in the third round. In order to avoid this, she would need a seed of 16 or higher.
Venus Williams/Caroline Garcia Rematch Tonight
09.29.2014 Venus Williams hit several errors in round one at Beijing and trailed 0-3 before turning on her power game to win 6-3, 6-1
over Heather Watson. In round two at about 1:30am PST USA, Venus takes on Caroline Garcia of France in a rematch of their Wuhan match
where Caroline won in a third set tiebreaker after Venus led 5-2 in set three. Venus played well last week and seems to be playing even
better this week. I think Venus will win in two close sets if she continues to play well.
Venus Williams Plays In Beijing Tonight
09.27.2014 Venus Williams plays tonight USA time in the China Open at Beijing in the first round versus Heather Watson of Great
Britain. Venus has finally gotten her ranking up high enough to earn a seed again, but this is a large tournament with does not give
byes. Venus has never played Heather before. Venus has a very difficult draw as she could play Caroline Garcia of France in round two
and the third seeded Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic in round three. Venus could play her sister, the top ranked Serena Williams
in the semifinals. Venus also will lose about 395 Tokyo rankings points after the tournament so she will need to do well in Beijing or
drop a few spots in the rankings just as she is getting close to a 16 or better seed in January's Australian Open.
