05.05.2013 Venus Williams is in Madrid, Spain this week to promote her Eleven line of tennis clothes and was also scheduled to compete in the
first round Sunday at the Mutua Madrid Open but she was forced to withdraw. Venus pulled out of the tournament Sunday due to a back injury
which unfortunately has been a reoccuring problem over about the last year for Venus. Venus lost in the second round at Madrid last year so
she doesn't have very many WTA Tour rankings points to defend at all at Madrid. But it would be good if Venus could play next week at Rome
and do well also at the French Open so she can get a 16 or better seed at Wimbledon. Venus is now ranked 21 in the WTA Tour rankings.

06.25.2012 Venus Williams has lost at Wimbledon day one; Monday 6-1, 6-3 to Elena Vesnina of Russia in a match where
she playing well below her best. Venus looked tired possibly due to her recent health issues and quickly fell behind
in set one 0-5. After the match, Venus refused to talk about her health however, but clearly it was a major factor. Venus is playing doubles
at Wimbledon with her sister Serena Williams then she competes back at Wimbledon again in a few weeks at the Summer Olympics in London.

Venus Williams Ousted In Charleston Quarterfinals
04.18.2012 CHARLESTON-- It was an interesting way to begin her claycourt season as Venus Williams earlier this month at the Family Circle Cup
in Charleston, South Carolina, USA came within one match of playing her sister Serena Williams in the semifinals. The Williams sisters
have not faced each other in a WTA Tour match since 2009.
Once again at this tournament Venus showed flashes of greatness and improvement
before falling in the quarterfinals to a top ranked opponent. Venus beat the 7th seeded Jelena Jankovic 7-5, 6-0 before going out in the
quarterfinals to the 2nd seeded Samatha Stosur 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. I saw part of the quarterfinal but missed the end. Venus was hitting the ball
well in the part I saw, but Stosur had Venus on the run in several other points with her huge forehand.
Venus Williams Returns To Tennis In Miami
04.18.2012 MIAMI-- Last month in March at the Sony Open in Miami, Venus Williams played her first WTA Tour tournament of the year
after fighting injury in
2011. Williams, who entered the tounament with a wildcard, upset the third seeded Petra Kvitova and the 15th seeded Ana Avanovic
before falling to the fifth seeded Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland 6-4, 6-1 in the quarterfinals. Williams appeared to be physically
tired during the match; possibly an affect of winning three three set matches in a row as well as her Sjogren's syndrome:
an autoimmune disorder that can lead to dry eyes, dry mouth and painful joint problems.
