Venus Williams/Caroline Garcia Rematch Tonight
09.29.2014 Venus Williams hit several errors in round one at Beijing and trailed 0-3 before turning on her power game to win 6-3, 6-1
over Heather Watson. In round two at about 1:30am PST USA, Venus takes on Caroline Garcia of France in a rematch of their Wuhan match
where Caroline won in a third set tiebreaker after Venus led 5-2 in set three. Venus played well last week and seems to be playing even
better this week. I think Venus will win in two close sets if she continues to play well.
Venus Williams Plays In Beijing Tonight
09.27.2014 Venus Williams plays tonight USA time in the China Open at Beijing in the first round versus Heather Watson of Great
Britain. Venus has finally gotten her ranking up high enough to earn a seed again, but this is a large tournament with does not give
byes. Venus has never played Heather before. Venus has a very difficult draw as she could play Caroline Garcia of France in round two
and the third seeded Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic in round three. Venus could play her sister, the top ranked Serena Williams
in the semifinals. Venus also will lose about 395 Tokyo rankings points after the tournament so she will need to do well in Beijing or
drop a few spots in the rankings just as she is getting close to a 16 or better seed in January's Australian Open.
Venus Williams Loses At Stanford, Plays Next Week
08.1.2014 Friday Venus Williams lost to Andrea Petkovic in the quarterfinals at Stanford 6-1, 3-6, 5-7. I did not watch the match yet, but
will report back after I watch it. Venus is also playing next week in Montreal, Canada to continue her preparations for the US Open.
Venus Williams Upsets Victoria Azarenka At Stanford
07.31.2014 Thursday night at the Bank of the West Classic in round two, the wildcard entry Venus Williams upset the 4th seeded
Victoria Azarenka of Belarus 6-4, 7-6(7-1). Venus played one of her best matches in a few years hitting the ball very hard on
her serve and groundstokes. Tomorrow not before 4:00pm in the quarterfinals, Venus plays Andrea Petkovic of Germany. Venus beat Andrea
both times they played but both went to three sets so Venus will need to play well. Venus could meet her sister Serena Williams in the semifinals.
Venus Williams Loses In Wimbledon Third Round
07.06.2014 Venus Williams made some key errors and lost in the third round at Wimbledon to the 6th seeded Czech Petra Kvitova 5-7, 7-6(7-2),
7-5. The good news is this was possibly Venus' best match of the year and she played at a very high level throughout, only losing her serve once
and breaking Kvitova's serve. Venus made only three unforced errors in the first set, but she made several key errors in the tiebreak and in the
last game of the match to drop her serve. In doubles, Venus and Serena Williams retired from their second round match after trailing 3-0 with what
Serena Williams said was a viral infection.
Venus Williams Seeded 30th In Wimbledon Singles
06.19.2014 Venus Williams has been seeded 30th in Wimbledon Ladies' Singles which begins Monday. Venus is also seeded 8th in the doubles with her
sister Serena Williams. Venus' ranking took a hit last year when she couldn't serve due to a back problem as well as problems caused by the
ongoing Sjogren's syndrome she is dealing with. Venus didn't play Wimbledon last year so this is a great chance for her to get some WTA Tour
rankings points over the next two weeks to improve her ranking on her best surface.
Venus Williams Reaches Saturday's Dubai Final
02.21.2014 Venus Williams Friday at Dubai beat Caroline Wozniacki 6-3, 6-2 by basically overpowering her from the baseline in the semifinals. I
watched the match and Venus is playing much better this week than in recent years. In Saturday's final, Venus faces Alize Cornet of France who
she has never lost to.
Venus Williams Plays Monday At Australian Open
01.12.2014 Venus Williams plays Monday (Sunday night USA) at the Australian Open round one versus 22nd seeded Russian left hander Ekaterina
Makarova. The Russian beat Serena Williams in 2012 at the Australian Open when Serena was limited by an ankle injury so Venus could have a
very difficult match if she does not serve well and keep her error count low. Venus could meet her sister Serena Williams in the semifinals.
