Moscow is definately not America, but it is not that bad. In
comparison to
other well developed countries, I would say that Russia is halfway there.
At first I did not like Moscow. It was too cold, the cars were too
old (70%
of the cars here are from the 60's and 70's) ect. I was being pessimistic
and negative. I think it was because I have been in Europe for like
twenty-seven days and I have never been away from the States this long.
Of course like every other major city in Europe, there is a
McDonalds. I had
to go. I wanted to see if they had any weird Russian food, like caviar and
egg burger. When we got there it was just the opposite. Everything's the
same, except the menu is in the Russian Cyrillic alphabet. Fortunately some
people there spoke English. My back up plan was to order a Big Mac if no one
spoke English. Who doesn't know what a Big Mac is?
What else... OK. I do plan to go see the Russian Crown Jewels and
maybe buy
myself some. I have a real problem with jewelry. I am liable to get out of
control in a jewelry store. Other than that I've just been seeing the walls
of my hotel room and hitting the courts everyday. The tourament really
has a
good player's eatery. There is this Swiss chef that runs the whole thing.
He's a pretty nice guy. A good cook too.
At the tournament they have all these booths in this stadium. (This
is the
Olympic stadium from the Olympics in Moscow in 1980) Reebok has this booth
with my picture on it. I was so happy about it because it is a good picture
for once. Most every other picture I have circulating out there are double
feature creature pictures!
Other than that everything is cool. One more thing, when Russians
talk to
you, or at least to me, they get really close to you. With some people you
feel as if you are about to die because they have bad breath.
I hope I have not bored anyone, if I have than I am sorry. I'll write
some
more things tomorrow and I'll be more prepared.
